Farm Pet + Food

  • Posted by: ChristineTan

When George Clooney named Max, a potbelly pig, his newest best friend/pet, I have to admit that I kind of wanted one too.

Now these days the latest farm animal to become part of people’s families is the chicken.  According to a recent Washington Post article, chickens are “easy pets.”  Not only are they fun, but you get to cook your pet chicken’s eggs for breakfast.

It sounds like even if you live in cities, you…

It’s Like Toxic Waste in Your Backyard

  • Posted by: ChristineTan
  • on May 17, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Gardening is no longer a hobby restricted to grandparents as it has recently gotten more popular among many households as well as urban ones.  However, a recent NY Times article has revealed that more often than not, many of these gardens are contaminated with lead.  This is especially true for ones that are situated near buildings that were built before 1978.  After all, older buildings have lead.  It is the lead from those buildings that…

Life Without Cars

  • Posted by: ChristineTan
  • on May 11, 2009 at 7:56 pm

In an experimental district of Germany, home garages, driveways and street parking are forbidden.  Vauban, an upscale suburb, is practically car-free.  That’s right – a suburb, a concept that we’ve always associated with SUVs and soccer moms as this article also points out.  For needed trips to stores for bulk items, families use communal cars.  Somehow, Vauban got it right.

Moreover, in one interview, a person claims that she is much happier and less tense…

No Pill Diet

  • Posted by: ChristineTan

Not a big fan of horse-sized vitamin pills?  Looks like you won’t have to take them if you fulfill all of your nutritional needs throughout meals.  Although that’s obvious, what kinds of foods should we be eating at meals?  The Washington Post tells us just that with its interactive menu for your convenience.  See here.

Six Categories of White Supremists in the US

  • Posted by: ChristineTan
  • on May 6, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Apparently, there are six types of white supremacists in the US.

“A Department of Homeland Security report, titled “Domestic Extremism Lexicon” (PDF), has been making the rounds on the Internet after being published last Thursday on the Daily Beast.
The final entry in the 11-page document notes that there are six
categories of “white supremacists” in the United States: neo-Nazi, Ku
Klux Klan, Christian Identity, racist skinhead, Nordic mysticism, and
Aryan prison gangs.”

Most interesting is that,

“Missouri is a stronghold…
