Knowing who you deal with is a good thing. E-Bay is for the masses but fakers are there too. Dealing direct with the artist is always a safe way to buy art. Selling fakes is made easier when the sales organization is a bazzar with no control over who is selling what.

Self-Representing Artists

Why self represent in selling art? A lot of good artists sell their own art directly not through a gallery or other art sales group. Why? Notoriously the gallery type sale carries with it a large markup. The building, utilities, staff, ads, all need to be paid by the sale of the art. In.. Read & Discuss

Yes Max.  There are many “outlets’ for art on the web. Basically art galleries imitating reality. The web based gallery is all over the internet and I have joined as many as I have time to. Thanks for the comment as it has also give me an idea for a blog entry,” Self-Representing Artists”. The artist who sells his own art.

Nostalgia Sells

Is it the bad times or is it we are all getting old? Nostalgic art sells three to one over other art forms from the studio. Paintings and even graphic art of things from our past sell better then original art, especially abstract art. Something about old things make us feel comfortable, like Grandma made.. Read & Discuss

Art Sales Tumble

Listening to MSNBC and CNBC yesterday a commentator said to cut back on unnecessary spending, save, as things will get worse. I noticed with all the talk the last few months art sales have tumbled to about 40% of what they were last year this time. I am sure things are bad as we read about GM.. Read & Discuss

Bad Paintings of Barack Obama

  • and said:

Who thinks art is objective? Art teachers, who teach students there is only one path to creative genius. Each student must do as they do, and all else is bad art. Never seen bad art myself and try each day to put aside what I was taught by art teacher who do not see beauty in all things and tried to stiffel crativity. Create, trial and error, new things, new ways, anything goes, nothing is bad but in the eye of the beholder. Now I must admit there is art I do not like, but that is subjective and a personal taste, not a statement the art is bad.
