What If the Whole World Could Vote?

http://www.economist.com/vote2008/ A friend of mine told me about this neat map from the Economist (I know, I was surprised too). Basically, it gives an idea of how overwhelmingly the rest of the world favors Obama.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtx97MR08Cg. Read & Discuss

I’ve only seen about 10 minutes of this interview but I was shocked at how stupid she sounded. I don’t know what I was expecting…I guess I thought her handlers would have tried to teach her a few things.I don’t think I’ve heard her state a fact yet. Curious.

great points. i recognize that we’re not going to drop oil anytime in the immediate future but it’s got to be a consideration. i agree that if we are going to be using oil (which we are) we’ve got to be responsible as possible.

am i correct that you’re in favor of more drilling in US soil? i don’t like it.

I certainly didn’t mean to suggest that wind power would completely replace oil by itself. Rather, I was pointing out the fact that alternative energy sources exist. Oil is certainly very important (for now). It must be obvious to all informed parties that there are inherent flaws in its use and that it is time to look to the future. Can’t use oil forever. Also, you seem to be ignoring that not having enough oil is not the only big issue here. My issue with oil is that it’s terrible for the planet and it’s putting terrible people in powerful positions.

Further, you’re talking about it taking decades to implement alternative energy sources. Maybe so, but everyone knows that even if we started raping the land even further we wouldn’t even get a drop o’ the sweet stuff for about a decade (hell, even McCain knows that). So your quick fix is not so quick. Even a commie pinko like me knows that we can’t just push a button and switch to different energy sources; we could look into improving public transportation though.

I actually really like nuclear. I wish it didn’t have such a bad rap, but I understand its cons.

Jeez man, lay of the Fox news feed. We’re not fighting Iraqis anymore? Really?? I know wikipedia is pretty flawed but give this a look (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_insurgency). We are fighting against Iraqis. Al Quaeda wasn’t there until we were. You seem to be a very intelligent person; I cannot believe that you actually think we’re only fighting Iranians. Al-Quaeda in Iraq is made up of a lot of Iraqis. “A policy of talking with them”? Yeah, diplomacy is fuckin’ wacko. Let’s nuke ‘em. I agree that we can’t leave Iraq a battlezone, but I think it’s important to consider the idea that the presence of US military is the main reason the battlezone exists.

I don’t want more oil. By the way, we’re on pace to have more wind-powered energy than any other country in about 8 years. I don’t recall the source on that, though. Wind really is an up and coming energy source, especially with the further implementation of offshore windmills (obviously that won’t do much for Nebraska, but it’s a start).

I can’t understand how you can say the Iraqi War has lasted 2 weeks. Is this like when people say the 6 days of creation in the Bible is actually millions of years? The war’s still happening. It may have changed from when ol’ W tricked everyone into it, but war is war (is Hell).

I agree that Mahmoud Ahmedinejad (sp?) is an idiot. Nail on the head with that one. But speaking with someone doesn’t mean making concessions. Diplomacy doesn’t make us pussies. Naivete is believing that Obama is going to bend over for our little buddy in Iran.

I’m not going to speak for Obama; he’s done that well enough on his own.

Specific as in… not opening up offshore drilling? Not maintaining a standing military presence in Iraq indefinitely? As in being open to meeting with the other leaders whose policies have the most significant impact on American life? Specific as in protecting women’s rights? Try googling “Obama environment” and click on the first entry for “specifics” there.

John McCain’s running on this vague notion of soldier = war-time executive. Your boy can’t even separate Iran from Iraq, Shiaa from Sunni, elbow from asshole.
