A Brief History of Transportation

There are some 600 million cars in the world. Airports in the United States launch tens of millions of flights every year. As a society, we’ve never been satisfied with staying in one place. In our latest Transparency, we take a look at the way people —from earliest man to the present day and beyond—have been getting from place to place and how long it has taken them to get there.

American Public Transit Lags Behind

American Public Transit Lags Behind

Even though subways are a fuel-efficent way to move people around congested urban areas, Americans make poor use of them, probably because they are poorly funded and often don’t travel where we want to go. Right now, of the five most-used subway systems in the country, only New York City’s attracts as many riders as the five largest foreign subway systems. Click here to see GOOD’s Transparency on the world’s most used subways, and how…

Is a Plane More Fuel Efficient Than a Prius?

What’s the most efficient way to get around? Planes might burn a lot of fuel, but they also are filled with people, making each gallon go a lot farther. How does that stack up against trains, buses, cars, or the gasoline equivalent of eating a burger and hopping on your bike? The answer may surprise you. In our latest Transparency, GOOD looks at what form of transportation gets the most bang per gallon on a…

There Are Drugs In Your Water
