I agree! social design SHOULD be an aspect of every major. I feel that at my college however there is not a lot of emphasis on it. I meet a lot of fashion design and sports communication majors…and perhaps they are hoping to make society better with their fashion and sports, but i bet that many aren’t…i just get discouraged when i ask people what their majors are and what they want to do after college because there seems to be more of an emphasis on “me” and less on “us” as in EVERYONE.

also concerning my title I feel that most students going into college are pressured into choosing something that fits into a major instead of thinking of what exactly they’d like to do in their life and THEN choosing a major or courses that will help them in achieving that goal.

To be honest before reading this, I had never even heard of the term “social design” and now I can give a name to this idea that pervades my beliefs and hopes for the world.

thanks for your thoughts and questions, i definitely needed to clarify. I hope that clears things up…if not, let’s continue! :o )

social design is a blueprint for the way a community of people could exist. It is a conglomeration of ideas(made by the people) that can make life for all people in a community or nation happier and healthier.

social design opens doors for positive change.

now all we need are some social designers.

my best friend is the person I strive to be like. she does GOOD things in her everyday life and does it without a selfish thought. Her name is Emily and she really deserves a big THANK YOU from the world.

~she’s currently a nursing major, she has gone on several community service trips to the dominican republic, haiti and other places, she is the most helpful person i’ve ever known and she’s just full of love for mankind! (and animals and the planet)~

please send her the following items to let her know she’s appreciated:

-a fun goodwill shirt

-a letter of appreciation from everyone in the world

-photos of people enjoying themselves

-a piece of jewelry from an old lady at a yard-sale or flea-market

-a sketchpad for her grand ideas

-a unique guitar pick

-a big hug or the idea of LOVE and PEACE

this is an amazing article… I hope that someday things change so that prison can be a place of rehabilitation and education instead of solely punishment. These people and their stories will be in my thoughts.
