Tips on How to Reduce Food Packaging Waste

i love this!

another thing you can do, is re-use the inevitable food packaging that you don’t necessarily have to throw out.  you can clean and re-use glass spaghetti sauce jars to store leftovers.  you can cut old milk cartons and use it to store used cooking oil.

if you have an enormous costco-sized cereal box & newspapers, it’s the perfect way to wrap a birthday present of any size.

Ideas for Cities: Free-agent Portfolio

i love this idea.  i wish i had done this when i was in middle school, too!

it would not only improve cities, but also help the students, schools, and companies infinitely.  it would close the gap between what we learn in the classrooms, what we enjoy and do for fun, with practical job-related skills.

selling out or cashing in? a new paradigm for advertising

i’m intrigued.  is it this company? http://twitter.com/adlyads?

maybe it could help smaller, friendlier local organizations, companies, books, farmers, that-really-nice-coffee place-across the street that traditionally don’t spend or rely much on slick advertising.

GOOD L.A.: Connecting with Nature and People

In the 4,000-square-mile metropolis that is Los Angeles, the often-mythologized freeway system may seem like the city’s only connecting fabric. It isn’t, though. There’s a functioning and widely utilized public bus system, young but improving light rail lines, and a burgeoning bicycling community. And, most neglected of all, despite its long history with the city: the Los Angeles river.

These three connecting forces of the greater L.A. basin—the Metro system, the bike community, and the L.A.…

German Internet Manifesto: How journalism works today

  • and said:

Wow.  A whole lot to digest at once, but what beautiful pieces of genius.  Who (or what organization slash genius) wrote this?

I particularly liked #12 (tradition is not a business model) and #5(the internet is a victory of information).

So the internet has empowered and informed readers, changed the relationship between politicians and constituents, corporations and the consumers, and lastly, the readers and the writers.  It’s not just about the technological change, the pace of news, the open-source data, it’s all of it…

But what I’m left wondering is what is the role of print in all of this?  Nothing?  Or will/is there a value left that is exclusive to print – whether it’s newspapers or magazines.. What about live television?
