About messyurbanist

Messyurbanist is a Urban Designer living in CHARLOTTE NC.

I'm a Jane Jacobs disciple...Or if you like, an acolyte of "messy urbanism", where design strives to take cues from the inherent messiness of life. I live along the light rail in Charlotte, working mainly on transit and transportation infrastructure projects with Neighboring Concepts, an MBE architecture firm (with offices in Charlotte and Savannah, GA). I have an M.Arch. from the school Kevin Lynch built.

America’s “Favorite Farmers Markets”

Way to diss our favorite urban markets, American Farmland Trust.  You’d think South Philly’s Italian Market, Union Square Greenmarket…or DC’s Eastern Market would make their top 20. I dunno about this list.

Project: Design a Livable Street

What an excellent water retention, pavement and channel idea by Barbara Swift (and co.)  If the channel meandered and encircled the tree to be an adaptable and flexible element as the sail above…even nicer.  I would love to see a more detailed development of the paving system above the soil retaining cell.  Curious of examples implemented.
