You must be the change you want to see in the world. ~Mahatma GandhiI can only hope that open source production becomes as successful as open source software. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these to play with.
The US military is currently spending ridiculous amounts of money to reduce casualties on it’s side. However they are fighting opponents who are far inferior in terms of their level of technology and funding. War on an equal technological footing will be uglier and bloodier than any conflict seen to date. WW2 cost roughly 3-4%, as casualties, of the worlds population(approximately 2.3 billion) at the time. If ever global conflict occurs again the cost of human life will be astronomical, it will not just be robot on robot. Factories are always targeted, crippling the war effort is the surest way to win. I can only hope we wont ever see it happen.
I personally have terrible hand writing, it’s my personal form of encryption that not many others can decipher. However my Mother is a teacher and she repeatedly tried to get me to practice handwriting, with limited success.I would personally put less emphasis on proper cursive and more on proper grammar. I am still a student and quite frankly English is more likely to be killed by a generation of sending txt msgs than by not picking up a pen.Pencils and pens will never completely disappear they are too useful, a quick sketch or a note cannot be replicated by technology. A lot of children loose their ability to eloquently and intelligently speak because of instant messaging and text messaging, but mostly laziness on their parts. I hope that while pens and pencils might be on the downward slide, that grammar manages to hold on and stick around.
This is the type of recycling program that should be required for all dangerous goods, not just cfl bulbs but batteries, electronics, and any other product that shouldn’t end it’s life in a landfill. Unfortunately you won’t be finding many company’s willing to bear the extra expense and most consumers are not willing to take the extra hit in their wallets.
