About reactive

reactive hasn't filled out their profile yet.

Michael Etter is an artist, educator, and activist who works in—and at the intersection of—graphic arts and publishing, media communications, and grassroots organizing. Michael’s work reflects his personal philosophy, which embraces the punk rock movement/d.i.y. ethic and uses the power of the creative process to transform community life. Michael is also the founder of the arts education organization, re:Active. Located in Portland, OR re:Active exposes youth to possible careers in the creative industries through the production of a zine about cultural issues. The zine serves as an independent voice for local youth. In 2004 youth at re:Active produced their first issue, re:sidue.

Great idea. It takes an investment of time and resources to bring someone along in an apprenticeship situation, so some improved tax rate/ better relationship with the city is very interesting.

I like this idea. The education model we have currently with it’s unsustainable inflation only heightens the division between haves and have nots. The middle class will eventually drown trying to keep up. Going back, in some instances, to an apprenticeship model would work for a lot of career choices. My fear is that the problems we need to solve today shouldn’t come top down only. We need smart people from the communities that are underrepresented to have access to a sense of meaningful accomplishment and that’s half the battle – Knowing that you can finish something significant. Enough to spark that entrepreneurial spirit.

I’d have to say that, both groups were a little tentative at first but everyone loosened up and had a good time finding out about each other’s work. Maybe…
