Reactions from Drinking Straight Vodka Shots

  • Posted by: shwizle

Over the past weekend, I hosted a party a my place in Geneseo, NY. My housemate and I thought it’d be neat to take photos of people taking shots-to get their reaction. Some subjects had great reactions, others not so much. Regardless, it made for a cool project, and I’d just like to pass it on for ya’ll to check out.

Shop Till You Drop?

  • and said:

The trials and tribulations of everyday life are, at worst, tolerable for most of the folks that will be reading this.  That being said, possessing the living essentials of food, water, shelter, and good health, is often overlooked and underappreciated.  And for a privileged few that have a seemingly endless supply of resources, the concern for survival has and never will be an issue.A majority of the world’s population does not have it as easy.  Due to circumstances usually outside of their control (geographic location, lack of job opportunities, disability, poverty, persecution), people, most of whom live in developing nations, are unable to access everyday necessities on a consistent basis. They do not possess the luxuries those living in developed nations have come to think of as required essentials of everyday life: mp3 players, wardrobe versatility, cell phones, internet, computers, electricity, running water, transportation.  With six percent of the world’s population controlling 59% of the global wealth, 94% of the population is left with less than half. The world’s economic disparity between haves and have-nots is rapidly increasing, creating a global concern that potentially fuels hatred, violence, and terror.  A solution, some sort of fix, is desperately needed.  While drastic, revolutionary change such as communism or socialism may be idealistic, it is inharmonious with the current culture and political system.  Fighting against the grain is one conceivable option and it deserves credit, but a much more viable, sensible solution is to take the preexisting capitalistic system and build upon it.  By working within the current system to creative positive social change, progress and success can be achieved at a fast rate.  Companies such as Project Red, GOOD, and Greenteam Advertising, to name a few, are exemplary models that work within the consumerist culture to shift the world to a better place.  I believe that these “do-good” companies that cater to conscious consumers are the wave of the future for feasible reduction of economic inequality in the world.

GOOD Sheet: Getting Gas

  • and said:

Venezuela getting 12¢ gas per gallon!?   I couldn’t believe this, so I did some more poking.  Indeed, it seems accurate:From Spanishdict.com… Latin American countries have been privatizing their petroleum industry
since the early 1900’s–this is why the prices are so low. Through
privatization, these countries hoped to attract much-needed investment
capital, increase GDP and introduce free market economic reforms but
much of the reforms have failed to live up to their promises.  Many
other Latin American countries that have a natural abundance of oil as
well, including Ecuador and Bolivia. Together, these countries are
affectionately referred to as “Petrocracies:” oil-rich countries
inhabited by poor citizens.

If Radiohead Can Do It, So Can We

This is amazing—a truly innovative approach for your publication.  Thank you GOOD for taking this bold initiative that allows virtually all humans throughout the world to afford this groundbreaking publication.  The ‘equal-opportunity’ model is a fantastic, proactive way to combat the increasing economic disparity between ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’ both in our country and throughout the globe.  May your success, as both a magazine and an enabler of many things “good” continue.

The logo could use some work IMO.

Regarding the actual idea, I think it’s neat that people are both eliminating waste and feeding homeless. However, I wonder if this could have an unintended negative side effect of encouraging poor people not to look for a job, etc, becaue now they can have free meals.

I’m all for philanthropy, however I believe that people will not learn anything by simply being given something without earning it in someway.

Reverse Graffiti Meets Advertising

  • and said:

This is a very interesting idea. I like how it is not environmentally destructive. At the same time, it’s bombarding more people with messages they probably don’t want to see. It’s nice to think of the streets as a place for artists as oppose for advertisers, but I guess this trangression is inevitable.

This “reverse graffiti” is brilliant. I love how the city officials washed the wall, to rid the skulls.
