While I’m all for US auto manufacturers trying out innovative business models, I hope they also remember to remember to focus on building cars people actually want to buy.
LED lights are definitely the future, but even with manufacturing costs
cut down, LED bulbs have a difficult time providing the even, diffused light that incandescents and CFLs provide. With all the downsides associated with CFLs (horrible color temperature, mercury, etc), some of which bother people (including me), there’s definitely a place for energy-efficient incandescents. And, unlike LED lamps, apparently these energy-efficient incandescents are here now. There’s clearly a market for these things (it’s not a waste of money).
I have a feeling that if I tried this with a public escalator in the USA, I’d get hauled away as some kind of sticker-placing video-making terrorist.
