Help me create an interactive learning and independent research-focused laboratory for a local Maine community

I'm in the process of creating a not-for-profit organization that has a mission of providing community laboratory space and the equipment needed to conduct marine ecological research focused on the Gulf of Maine (similar to DIY Bio, except focusing on marine ecology). The laboratory will also incubate young scientists and work towards getting the local community not only more interested in science, but also developing a more personal relationship/investment in the Gulf of Maine.

Donating to this venture will allow me to stock a blank laboratory space with microscopes, buckets, nets, calipers, specimen holding tanks, and other needs for ecological research. Any thing helps, and even if you have nothing to give monetarily, please let me know what you think of this endeavor!

I'd love to know more about the research you're doing specifically in Maine.

During my thesis work I studied a sea slug (nudibranch) feeding on an invasive species in the Gulf of Maine, but I've also worked on multi-trophic aquaculture, rapid assessment surveys for invasive species, and bryozoan taxonomy.

I'm looking to make a space where the community can engage in similar research activities and be able to provide interactive learning experiences for kids so that can see the scientific research process using marine ecology (since they are already so close to the Gulf)!

So sciency! How do you aim to make science accessible to those who don't have as much knowledge as you?

By offering basic classes, lectures, and interactive activities. Those who are interested in conducting their own research will be assessed to see if they need introductory information before getting started (people with a B.S. will need some information on how to conduct research, whereas people with a M.S. probably won't need much or any). I'm also looking to do interactive rocky shore tours to get people interested in the Gulf of Maine and the science happening there.
