Food is something we often take for granted, so it's so great to set aside one day to really consider what we're putting inside our bodies day in, day out. So many people groan and roll their eyes when you say to eat mindfully (picturing an endless diet of brown rice and steamed lettuce, no doubt!) but we need to change people's thinking that eating mindfully is not deprivation--it means to take a pause and consider where your food comes came from!

Yes, thanks, E! No doubt there are kinks in the system—how the US, in the land of plenty has so many people who are undernourished yet overweight/unhealthy—but we also need to consider what is working, and how we can move forward in feeding and sustaining if not the country, the world. Eat less processed foods, and thank your local farmers!

Food is an important conversation that more people should be talking about. Everyone knows our food is pumped full of GMO's and inorganic matter that facilitates the distribution necessary for the sell of food. But my point is how we consume food...Most people, I see, eat alone. Whether its a tv dinner after work or a burger through the drive through at lunch people have become secluded during one of the best opportunities to engage with others. How do we promote spending time with friends and family? We should start a campaign slogan: WE ADVOCATE YOU EAT TOGETHER!

Thanks for commenting, Will! Agreed, there's nothing better than sharing food and meals with people. And there are many good folks getting dialogues started about GMOs and labeling--please see gmofilm.com or fooddemocracynow.org to get involved. And please share how you spent Food Day!

I know - people criticize them- so I wonder if their business model will work out there.
