Day 24: Love The Ones You Have

torizenko

When
March 24, 2013

This morning I was woken up by a phone call from one of my best friends parents saying that she was in critical condition from the night before. She had been found unconscious, not breathing & had been rushed to the ER. Her BAC was 40, enough to, on average, result in death. She asked to see me as soon as she woke up. Two years ago, around this same time but under different circumstances, I had a best friend pass away; I have never gotten a more devastating phone call than that one, a phone call that I thought I was getting again today. The moral of this story should be as apparent as it is cliche but nevertheless true. There's a lot to be said for being there for the people you love and letting them know that you care because someday, out of the blue, they might not be there anymore for you to let them know. It's not always easy to express feelings; we aren't always comfortable with them ourselves or we worry how they'll react, but love should never be taken for granted or dismissed.

Inappropriate?
