I am going through cancer and have learned the psychological burden of cancer is far harder then the physical burden at my age. These told are great for someone like me looking for quick mind fillers. I went to the fair with my son and husbsnd instead of staying home. That is good

Cassie, I can't imagine what that might feel like. Thank you for sharing. It's so important that you take the time right now to enjoy life as you did by going to that fair.

I don't usually think of myself as a fearful person, but I really love music -- in particular, original female emcees -- and the idea of trying to make my own musical contribution is terrifying to me. If I wasn't afraid, I would learn to DJ, make beats, or (oh god it's scary just to type it) lay down some vocals of my own. As it is I don't know if I'll ever be that brave. It truly frightens me that I might put my creativity into something that I really love only to find out that I have no talent at all for it, which to my scared brain sounds like the strong probability!

Because fear of negativity is the prevention of negativity, I think most of us would be dead if we had no fears.

I definitely think fear can be a form of mental self-preservation, but I think breaking through fears is a more powerful way to develop the self.

      • Carly

Very true! I was just saying how you can harm yourself if you break through the wrong fears, so you have to be careful.

I'm constantly upping the ante and doing things I was previously "afraid" of including selling my home & stuff to start a volunteer literacy project, Couchsurfing on 4 continents, auditioning for performances in Kenya (got it), being kissed by a giraffe, participating in a salsa congress after only dancing salsa twice; a BLAST! Currently, reaching out and Asking. Whatever the asking may be. It's been an amazing experience receiving! :) The fear is smaller and smaller.

Just like the Ethiopian Story of Miobi. Everyone is afraid of the monster, it appears to be HUGE. Until Miobi finds within himself a bit of bravery, he goes on the journey to confront the monster and when he is finally up close and Personal with it, the "monster" turns out to be smaller than a kitten and much less frightening than once thought. :) So it is with us as we confront our fear. HUGS to everyone!

I recently ran a 5K and I am afraid of running because I had an accident. But I did it, and it felt awesome! The crowd that participated motivated me!
