Journalist Sebastian Junger formed Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues (RISC) after his reporting partner Tim Hetherington was killed covering the 2011 uprising in Libya. The injury that took Hetherington's life didn't need to be fatal, but nobody around him had emergency medical training.
RISC trains freelance journalists, who increasingly represent the vast majority of those who cover wars, to treat life-threatening injuries on the battlefield. Their training sessions are free for experienced, published freelance conflict journalists. Support their work today.
