    Meditating is a life saver. It helps you to be more aware during the day when you're running around. Just those few extra seconds from just taking one breath is all you need when you react to situations around you. You make better decisions. You finally see that your response is more important than the situation you are in.

    I've been meditating for at least 10 minutes for the past three years and it's been a process (definitely rewarding though). Some days it's easier than others to do, but it's almost always rewarding just to have a moment to you, quiet, and your thoughts.

    I really like how this article positions the deflection of distractions as an active and rewarding process. I read this when it came out last month and since then I've started my own routine of eight minutes, timer, etc. It's going great, and to each their own, etc.

    But I'm super glad I saw this because it helped me get over my "you're doing it wrong" impulses and embrace the practice of recognizing how my mind was responding to this attempt at focus and being totally OK with that but forging ahead anyhow.

      Totally. That is so great you are doing this and it is going great. I'll be curious to see if you stick with eight minutes or decide to start inching up over time.
