Recognize The Great Pacific Garbage Patch as the 8th Continent

Eli Peer

Where
Around The World

For decades, billions of plastic bottles manufactured by Big Soda companies have reached the Ocean and been gathered along with other plastic waste to create a huge mass in the middle of the Pacific. This mass, also known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, is so big – twice the size of Texas - that it should be its own continent.
This human creation must be recognized by the international community.

We must ask that people from all over the world sign a potion that will be sent to The United Nations, The White House and Governments all around the world so that the world leaders wake up and recognize this environmental catastrophe and take action.
The patch now is larger then twice of Texas and growing daily!!!

Thank you for posting. Signed. Wondering how we can minimize our waste in the meantime so that we don't have to wait for the govt to respond? Companies can start minimizing plastic packaging, but what else can be done?

        Hi Alessandra,
I agree we must act now, well the answer is less usage.
Consuming less, stop drinking water from small plastic bottles, buy a reusable bottle and drink tap water.
Way buy Soda from the big bad companies when there are simple DIY alternatives in the the market that allow you to carbonate tap water and make your own Soda.
Order less from the net, they pack the goods to good using so much bad plastic buy local.
        I hope I helped.

Great point about buying local. That way you can use canvas bags! Small differences help. I'd be curious to know what you think of not just plastic, but also small ways to cut energy usage.

Cutting down usage is basically a magical answer to most problems: Less meat, less plastic, less paper, less carbon footprint...
We need to understand that we are using much more then we need.
I'm not saying return to live in the stone times, but we are using and throwing much more then we need and letting big corporations convincing us that yes we need to consume more, more, more and we don't.
            Be responsable!
