Transcribe videos for the deaf and hard of hearing with Amara.

Do It

Here's another easy microvolunteering task you can do in your PJs! Help enable the deaf and hard of hearing to access videos on YouTube and elsewhere with Amara, a crowdsourced subtitling platform that invites volunteers from around the world to translate online videos. You'll not only make videos accessible for hearing-impaired viewers, but if you're multilingual, you could create captions for people who don't speak the language in the video.

The process is extremely straightforward. Submit the web address of an existing video to Amara’s site, or browse and answer requests from hearing impaired viewers who have submitted videos they'd like your help in transcribing. Then simply use the automatically generated workspace to type along with the dialog to create the subtitles. You can participate as an individual or as part of a team dedicated to captioning/translating videos from specific video related platforms.
