I knew that high school football in the South was a big deal, but I didn't realize just how big a deal it was. The parking lot—staffed with parking attendants—was overflowing for last night's game between reigning division champion Memphis University School and Briarcrest Christian School. News crews and photographers crowded along the sidelines, and coverage of the game was the main feature on the Memphis Commercial Appeal's sports page today. Briarcrest, it turns out, is the high school that Michael Oher of The Blind Side fame attended. If last night's game was any indication (final score: 45 to 14), their team misses his skills in a big way.
