"Even the best of us essentially drop in from our collective ivory towers only to helicopter out with deliberate speed. We never become a part of black males' social milieus. Those who want to help have become what I often refer to as arms-length advocates. In the Twitter world, we call these folks slacktivists."
Can you elaborate on this? I suspect I know what you're talking about, but I'm not sure.

People in general want to help but never develop the intimate, deep relationships with black and Latino males. In many communities black males are social isolated. Still, many talk about the need for change. Many offer donations or forward tweets. These are good things but are insufficient for change. We need folks to get personal and develop durable relationship with black males.

    >>In addition, America is not going to "non-profit" its way towards black male progress....Change will occur because the nation got institutional as much as it got personal.<<
This is the problem we see in so many areas of the country. Black youth are being labeled as a thugs, typecast due to their attire or demeanor. On the other hand, a Black man is unable to acquire solid employment based on his credentials along; it's all about who you know. Either way, America feels threatened by the Black male. He is criminalized when he is young, when he grows he is still unable to fit-the-bill. Black males can never prove themselves enough. Especially when there's constant opposition. Rush Limbaugh has already condemned the program as racist in nature because only Blacks and Hispanics are mentioned. This is an example of why we need the program in the first place. Hiring manager are influenced by people and institutions that take on the disposition of Rush Limbaugh.
