How A Bike Ride Can and Should Change Your Life

Nicole Adamson

We arrive late, pulling into the small parking lot at Kila School in northwestern Montana (just south of Kalispell), hoping we have enough time to register and get our gear loaded onto the truck before the ride starts. The parking lot teems with nearly a hundred and fifty exuberant cyclists removing bikes from racks, and making their way to the registration line, to the jersey pick up line, to the line where you get your bike inspected...

Thanks Alesandra. These are great questions. I think I'll work on a post about how women can better train for long rides, and cycling in general. Of course there isn't any quick answer, but I started training a year ago and spent at least six hours a week on my trainer in the winter, and fifteen hours a week on the road once the weather is good enough here in Montana to ride out-of-doors. But I think that part of empowering women to be healthy and strong doesn't have to be about training for a long ride, but just getting out and riding - ditching the car in the garage and biking to work, getting your family out for a ride on the weekend to the park or to town. Hope this helps, I get working on a post about various training strategies. Thanks again for reading and sharing your comments.

Awesome. I think that would be a great post. I look forward to it. This weekend, I'm fixing up my bike just in time for spring.

Your ride sounds incredible. I have a hard time building enough endurance to get to a point where I could do a long ride like this. Any tips? I know I should just do it and increase my time on my bike progressively- but any other tips would be appreciated!
