Bottled water is not just bad for your health, but also the environment. Besides the fact that plastic can leech and cause health issues, the water in the bottle is not any safer than drinking from the tap. Check this out: http://inspiyr.com/bottled-water-scam/

It seems plastic SODA bottles should be banned instead. I wonder if they will implement the use of glass water bottles?

  • John Keith

    It should happen everywhere

  • Chaiya Eitan

Why don't they just recycle the bottles??

    • Ebony Waters

If people WOULD just do that there would be no need for a ban.

The real reason they do that isn't for environment. Its the same reason you shouldn't give infants plastic bottles -- It is bad for you. Plastic can be made biodegradable... But theres a catch to that, you have a small chance of drinking small microscopic plastic particles when drinking out of those plastic bottles. It can cause kidney problems, liver diseases, plastic build up can cause improper nutrient intake in your whole body. Causing cancers, and bunch of other malnutrition problems in you.
Companies use plastic bottles because its cheapers and they use they biodegradable plastic as it is a requirement and some companies just do not want to spend extra money on quality bottles. There is no glass water bottle out there. So what the blogger is missing, it is a regulation against plastic bottles, not water. Just so happens that you can't find water in a glass. As the glass bottle would be the most expensive thing you purchase buying the water. You may start seeing the space pouces filled with water (like capri-sun) that are mainly tin foil.

The environmental club and I at Whittier College embarked on the same goal last year and we were able to get funding from the school for reusable bottles to hand out to students. It was great progress for us. I am happy to hear that Concord has reached a huge milestone in their environmental movement.

That's great! Do you know if other colleges have gone as far as eliminating water bottles from sale? From the little I've heard about the contracts universities have with drink companies, it seems like it would be a major challenge. Congratulations.

Go Concord! Hope my hometown and American Revolution counterpart, Lexington, follows suit soon.
