Chandeliers Made of Recycled Bicycle Parts Create Public Theater

Making use of a literal passed-over space, artists Joe O'Connell and Blessing Hancock hung a series of LED-lit chandeliers from the underbelly of an IH-35 overpass in San Antonio, Texas.

Entitled Ballroom Luminoso, the installation features six color-alternating chandeliers—each one fitted with a porous shell made of recycle bicycled parts.

The repurposed cranks and cassettes provide for complex geometric shadows, an effect the artists describe as "shadow theater."
