Coal City in China Hosts Asia's First Solar Decathlon, Moves Towards Cleaner Energy

For over 10 years, coal has been the economic heart in the city of Datong, China--giving it the reputation of being one of the more polluted cities in the nation. Recently, however, Datong played host to Asia's first-ever Solar Decathlon in an attempt to rebrand itself as a city eager to loosen its dependency on coal. Over a 2 week period, 20 teams from around the world competed at building a single-family home run entirely by solar panels. The event also served as a testing ground for new tech.
