Concrete Tubes Get A New Lease Of Life In Madrid's Lower Income Neighbourhoods

Agus Echague

Hypertube is a creative effort by PKMN Architects & Taller de Casqueria @ Madrid.
Created from 6 precast reinforced concrete tubes that are 2 meters in diameter and 2 1/2 meters in length each, these repurposed tubes have been given a new lease of life.
These tubes allow people of all ages to stand inside, and makes for a place where neighbours and passers-by can go to.
Hypertube is a part of an urban redevelopment project to transform lower income neighbourhoods with contemporary art.
