Denial--Humanities biggest problem

Michael Spectar talks about the danger of denying scientific truth.

"You're entitled to your own opinion, but you're not entitled to your own facts."

This is the a very serious issue, and I think the more time we spend denying the truth about so many issues--whether it be global warming, religion, etc--that are supported by an overwheling number of scientisits, the longer we prolong human progression.

it's time to start thinking before critisizing things that we know so little about.

This is a great point. I feel like especially in America people think their opinions are facts. It's almost like people think that freedom gives them the right to make stuff up and spew it like truth. Is there any way to combat this?

I totally agree. Even here in Canada, ignorance has such a strong voice. I'm not saying i know it all, but I think as long as we live in a world dominated my business folk and politicians, progress will be quite minimal. I've always imagined a world controlled by engineers, scientists and doctors. Imagine how different the world would be.
