    I think I disagree with some of the comments in this post. I believe that, even if you would like to think you are not participating in a system that's flawed, you are part of it, like it or not. In Australia, you can resort to casting the "donkey" vote -- for your dog, for example, or the neighborhood wombat.

    That said, I have this discussion with my Australian husband every election cycle. There is no way in hell a referendum to mandate voting will ever pass in the United States!
