A few years ago, when John VanDeusen Edwards – founder of neighborhood farm project Food Is Free – moved into his central Austin home, he wasn’t even a gardener yet. As he describes it, “I was living a double life, working as an insurance salesman during the day, then coming home to teach myself about growing food.”
