While onstage at the Largo in Los Angeles, comedian Tig Notaro began speaking about her recent breast cancer diagnosis. The audience struggled to react; there was laughter, awkward silence, and ladies crying into the second apple martini of their two drink minimum.

The performance, which comedian Louis C.K. called “one of the truly great, masterful stand up sets,” instantly became legendary for its raw honesty, which quickly metastasized across the internet and spawned thousands of new Tig devotees.

Notaro has since announced that she is cancer-free after undergoing a double mastectomy. This year, Notaro is moving to New York to develop her new act, and will be writing for a Comedy Central show, starring her friend Amy Schumer.

Notaro says she has also considered touring with the show, which is a departure from her typical stand up shows. 2013 will see her looking for a producer, promoter, director, and an appropriate venue in which to perform.

“It’s going to be quite the undertaking and I'd obviously like to do it right and see it succeed,” Notaro says. “Ideally, I would be able to get this going towards the end of the year, but that might be too soon. See? I have no idea what I'm doing.”
