A shrine at the top of most hills. Generally, the larger the hill the larger the shrine.

Sounds so fun! It's cool that you want to go past a travel checklist and are looking to really invest in where you're going. And nice Walter Mitty references, that's such an amazing movie. I can't wait to hear more!

Pine! So stoked for you and your dad! Being able to live in the moment is one of most important qualities you can develop. Can't wait to hear all the stories when you come home!

awesome! Here's to LIVING in the Moment Wherever you happen to be. Best wishes on your travels with your Dad and in Connecting to your present environment! Looking forward to your stories! Bon Voyage!

I've done slightly similar travels, ok, no bike, no Dad (he died when I was 22)
But I did 2.5 month storytelling tour across Europe Spring 2011, couch surfed entire time, it was Amazing. Lived in the present.

2013; 30 days in Kenya & 30 Days in Ghana, 21 Days in Haiti interviewing and collecting/sharing real life stories of resilience to break the pity/poverty model and instead create the Potential/Possibility model.

      Hey Kristen,
That sounds like a wonderful trip. I feel that couchsurfing is a great way to "really" see a city. As tourists, it is so easy to miss the hidden gems.
Would love to hear more about the potential/possiblity model. It's that done thing you are pursuing now?
I will check the books when I get a chance(better internet).

        HI Pine Watt!

It was wonderful. YES Couchsurfing and others like it such as Be Welcome and Servas are Wonderful ways to truly see a city and experience culture you might also miss. :)
The Possibility/Potential model is a thread through ALL the work I do. It is about seeing beyond manmade borders and stereotypes to the Human Being, making NO assumptions, valuing and respecting each person/culture, listening deeply and learning from each person no matter Where one is and no matter Who is one each side of the conversation. It applies Everywhere and to Everyone. This way of thinking has vastly changed interactions and led to the "real" story and to problem solving and so many interesting projects and ideas. It breaks the sometimes perceived power dynamic and serves each person as someone of value with something to offer whether ideas or sharing a dish of food prepared together.

I hope this helps and if you want to know more, just ask and I will do my best to share. I really LOVE the community here at Good.Is I've met so many interesting people. :)
