Goodbye Refined Sugar: U.S. Government Cracks Down On School Snacks

Beginning in June, schools in the U.S. started implementing new standards covering vending machines, and snack bars. The emphasis is on whole grains, as well as foods containing fruits, vegetables, dairy, or protein (meat, beans, poultry, seafood, eggs, or nuts) as primary ingredients. Sodium and added sugars and fats with no nutritional value are no-nos. This will affect nearly 50 million kids, but what students bring from home and buy off campus will not be regulated. Yay, progress.
