When Americans hand out Halloween candy they may inadvertently be contributing to the destruction of orangutan habitats and palm trees thousands of miles away. But don't feel guilty. Instead, do something about it. Rainforest Action Network is http://inyourpalm.org/ of your palms which they will send to companies that make candy out of palm oil.

    Palm Oil is in 50% of consumer goods (and not always labeled as "palm oil"). This is good start!

    I love that this campaign to save orangutan habitats involves people taking pictures of their palms: "The group is asking people to upload photos of their palms (gotta love a homonym) to a website. It's hoping to collect 60,600 images -- or one human hand for every orangutan in the wild." Really cool- especially bec I think the hands are really powerful- and an aspect of evolution that really connects us with orangutans.
