Excellent idea, congrats on your efforts! Something tangible like this in today's digitized world has so much more intention and meaning behind it.

I think this could really have impact if all local governance sent out postcards and lunch openings at random.
After a while they might develop a feel for the people who elected them to help.

    • Hunter Franks

Thanks vindess! Are you suggesting sending the postcards to government or having the government send the postcards to people?

      • vindess

        Government sends out postcards.

Wonderful way to connect. one to another. one post card, one small story at a time. When we share our stories, we realize we are far more similar than different. thanks so much for sharing this project and best wishes as you expand! HUG!

Thanks Kristin! I'm starting to build some resources to help others start a Neighborhood Postcard Project in their community here: http://bit.ly/18ZXb8E Let me know if you would be interested in starting one!

Hunter - You are awesome and this project is needed throughout the country. We gotta break down the perception that we're all so different. That's what prevents people from coming together to change things.

I can't wait to participate and help build a better San Francisco.

    • Hunter Franks

Thanks so much Kim! Couldn't agree more. Are you in SF?

      • Kim Hunter

I am!! What area are you in? I'm in the Haight.

        • Hunter Franks

Awesome! I'm in the Richmond District. Would you be interested in being an SF Postcard Project Ambassador and helping out at events, etc? Shoot me an email at hunter@sfpostcardproject.com if you want to get involved and we can chat!

I LOVE this idea and wonder if it is already being implemented in other cities? Something like this would be wonderful in Detroit (my city). Any ideas on how to implement elsewhere?

And I just read further down to see the link to the resources provided by Hunter. What I think would be really great is to have pages for different cities that are participating so people can visit and see what is happening in their own city. Somewhat similar in concept to the PostSecret blog wherein you can share (with permission of course) some of the more meaningful stories and interactions that result...

Wonderful to see the Postcard Project connect folks beyond Bayview and Tenderloin neighborhoods in such a serendipitous, yet intentional way. Definitely excited to see how PP will evolve as more stories are collected! Awesome stuff, Hunter!

Loved this article, Hunter! Excited to see it shared further.

Thanks Heidi! What community are you in? Would you be interested in starting a Postcard Project there?

  • Beetlebum

This project sounds like a nice idea. It's really simple but would work in many places, connecting different people... I will think about implementing something similar in my own community. Thank you for inspiration!

I love this Hunter. Sometimes it's hard to gauge how many connections you make with a project like this, but I'm sure stories like La Shon's make you realize it's worth it. Would love to know if you've learned of any other similar projects that connect people this way.
