I love this idea. A bike helmet vending machine cracks me up! But I'm interested in the cost of them for users and what are the odds that they actually will be recycled to make new ones? Is the idea of disposable helmets wasteful or will it work?

I'm not affiliated with the manufacturer- but it sounds like the helmets meet standards- and it seems like there's two questions, right? (1) Will these helmets save lives? (2) Is this sustainable (there's always a better way, maybe someone didn't execute it yet, though)? I prioritize the safety factor and believe that there's probably a more sustainable solution as well. A fellow on Twitter today suggested helmet liners and shared helmets- not sure if that's feasible, but if it is, certainly there's less material to waste, and in this case, less is more alright. Great question!

These are so interesting—really amazing that they can actually protect your head...

I reacted the same way- and evidently, the next iteration will even be designed to exceed the bike helmet standard.
