How Mapping Can Pull Slum Communities Out of the Shadows

Grown within the cracks of large cities, slums are largely disconnected from the order of the grid, with housing, streets, and power often coming from overlapping, unregulated efforts of "make-do" construction. And they're where over 830 million people call home. For slum mappers, identifying the daycare centers, informal schools, and areas in need of repair is key to pulling these overlooked places out of the shadows.
"It's good to know where your spot — where your spot is in the world."
