In Zimbabwe, the Crackdown on Prostitutes is a Ruse to Oppress All Women

The Zimbabwean government is cracking down on loitering as a way to curb prostitution... that is, if you accept the version of events proffered by government officials.

But advocates argue that the government is using the campaign as a ruse to oppress all women, not just sex workers.

“You can’t go to the shops after 8 p.m. because they assume everyone is a hooker. It’s plain harassment, simple," one regular, everyday Zimbabwean woman said.
