Jerky Dog Treats, Made from Endangered Whale Meat, Pulled Off Store Shelves

Michinoku Farms, a Japanese pet food company, has ended their line of dog treats made from endangered whale meat. The product, branded as a "jerky" dog snack, drew concern from animal and environmental organizations, including the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), after it was discovered the treats were processed using endangered North Atlantic fin whales. The whale meat had been imported from Icelandic whaling company Hvalur Hf and was not illegal to sell in Japan.
