Just in Time for Santa: A History of the Chocolate Chip Cookie

I was amazed to learn in this story that not only are chocolate chip cookies quintessentially American, but that the recipe for the first chocolate chip cookie was actually carefully tested and thought through by an experienced baker not that long ago, and not a food that just evolved "naturally." I still don't know how chocolate chip cookies became Santa's snack of choice, though.
