Living on $1 a Day

Creative Visions Foundation

Students at Claremont McKenna college, Chris Temple and Zach Ingrasci chose an unusual path to learn about and address global poverty.

In 2010, they left the comforts of their school and headed south to Guatemala to live on a dollar a day themselves. They did this for two reasons – to gain a deeper understanding of what the extreme poor go through and to make a documentary film that would engage other American youth. Now, they've finished a documentary, begun a tour, and launched a movement.

I like that they are doing true immersion. And not separating themselves from the poverty issue. One has to think that there perspective is much different , since they are purposefully choosing to go into poverty. It is a whole different experience when you are forced into poverty. Love the work!

I agree! It is one thing to take a camera into a developing country and film poverty-- it is a completely different things to attempt to live it yourself. I would imagine that their immersion resulted in a much deeper understanding of the poverty cycle. I'm super excited for this film!
