Couldn't agree more! We've inadvertently done the same thing as Graham Hill, got some dosh after years without, bought loads of stuff over a miscellaneous period of time and then out it all out in our shared parking area with some 20 neighbours and given it all to them because damn! what a trap! We're happiest on a trip with whatever we need for the next few days and a dream to do, see and achieve thing. Doing, seeing and experiencing are so, so, so much better than having.
PS travelling is the best! Lots of fun and feel good.

"Intuitively, we know that the best stuff in life isn’t stuff at all, and that relationships, experiences and meaningful work are the staples of a happy life."

Victor Frankl also points out that those three factors—relationships, experiences, meaningful work—along with purposeful trial and tribulation contribute to meaning and value. Great post Max.

I've been interested in small living, but in my city (Boston) I can't seem to find anything that is affordable. at all.

Important point, Joshua. I think Graham's article is spot on, but it only indirectly touches on affordability. The cost of living is quite high in many cities, certainly in New York City where Graham is based. This is part of the catalyst for Graham's Life Edited experiment - to show how small living is cheaper and better. Currently, I'm living simply with 8 housemates in Los Angeles, which lowers the cost of living. Not for everyone, but works well for me now. Best of luck finding the right place for your small living.

I feel like community living is a great way to live with less. Having lived with 8 or 9 others for a 10 month span, communication and cooperation is key in such living situations.

Yeah, I currently do the roommate situation as well. It works but even for the better areas it is costly. I'm working it out.
