George! This is a great article with such valuable information. More often than not at my workplace, my direct supervisor, coworker and I hit communication barriers when trying to come up with "systems" to make things better. Personally, if I here the word "systems" one more time and how it relates to us not doing something correctly, I might flip. I'm not entirely sure how i would relate this to my workplace, but I love the 30 Circles exercise and have already shared it on Facebook. :)

Awesome ideas! We are currently having a big challenge in our community about how to have constructive dialogue between the citizenry and the city, particularly around the evolving plans for flood protection. I really hope that in the next few months I'll have a success story to share!

Elizabeth, this sounds really important work. Please let me know how this develops or if I can help in anyway.

I'm a big proponent of brainstorming, George, and the rules set up for public brainstorming make it sound like not only a useful endeavor, but a lot of fun, as well.

Way to go George, GOOD- I'd love to see more content around best practices and case studies from Locals for doing more good. This is terrific.

I'm really curious to know what ideas people came up with -- can you share some of the ideas?

    • George Aye

      My favourites from the brainstorm:
An integrated bus stop/bike parking/ taxi stand
Mount camera to see what's up at the previous bus stop (helps you know how many people boarded before you and lets others know that if anything shady happens here, someone is watching at the next stop)
And this one is much harder than it sounds—an integrated payment system for CTA/Metra/Pace

Nice application of design thinking in the community! Well, the first step, anyway - which is always the hardest, right?

The second step could possibly be training the community to start to taking these ideas into early, low-fi prototypes. Next GOOD Local event perhaps?
