New study shows how art makes us smart

Excellent new research shows that art museums help students grow intellectually as well as artistically. From the article:

“Students who, by lottery, were selected to visit the museum on a field trip demonstrated stronger critical thinking skills, displayed higher levels of social tolerance, exhibited greater historical empathy and developed a taste for art museums and cultural institutions.”

    I strongly agree. Just the experience and exposure gives children's minds the palette to connect and create a better understands and love to learn. Very good read, thank you for sharing !!

    I love that they had a lottery for schools to participate in their free museum visits. It democratizes the system and makes it more possible for students to visit. I think their sample wasn't diverse or large enough though to really gauge whether or not the visits impacted students' social skills/critical thinking skills. At the same time, I think it's a given- art is crucial for child development. It makes you think in different ways.
