    While some people like me have dreams to create a startup that involves developing an online platform, we find that finding a developer is difficult. How do we go about finding a developer so that the founders can put efforts in other initiatives such as customer development, creating a vision and pitching?

    This title is provocative, but totally misleading. Founders can be developers. They just shouldn't be THE developer, certainly in the long term. But in this crucial founding time, it seem as good as any other discipline to be able to be the one to build the thing you think ought to exist. Just know that if it works you'll need to be able to direct and manage others doing the continued building.

      Yes, I think the title of the piece should be more to the point of the post, and it's that it's difficult to direct a vision when you're coding or designing it all day.

          I often times find the personality and spirit of developers to be healthy as a co-founder. Developers (many I know) are frequently driven by making something groundbreaking, rather than salary and equity. That passionate pursuit of discovering and problem-solving is necessary in growing a seed, such as a startup.

          However, if you were a developer-turned-co-founder...it's just hard to balance between those two hats. You would work harder just to manage rather than to master the role. It's like a designer trying to be a developer, or vice versa... you can't be the best at both even if you tried.

          I'm surprised this article didn't mention anything or a slight reference to Paul Allen and Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak...etc etc.

            I know as a consumer, I'm always more intrigued by a dedicated pursuit to put something in the world that hasn't been done or done a specific way before, and typically these products when successful speak for themselves. Truly innovative, new technologies and interfaces are the best CEOs and COOs at the start, which means usually the people with product power, the devs and the designers, are the best founders and cofounders. I always think of Larry Page's comment that once Google really began to take off, it was time to kind of let the adults in the company to steer the ship, to set growth goals and define long and short term objectives.
