Public Art in Los Angeles is slated to be destroyed

The City of Santa Monica, CA wants to scrap Chain Reaction, a landmarked piece of monumental public art created by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Conrad.

Lovers of public art and free civic expression need to raise $400,000 immediately to save it as some feel it is not art.

Why? A city with a large public arts budget says it can no longer afford to live up to its decades-long commitment to protect and maintain this 26-foot high sculpture of a nuclear mushroom cloud constructed of chain links.
