    Interesting thoughts, but limiting the definition of social network to one where the telephone is the only method of communication makes for a very biased result. With different work patterns and availability, asynchronous methods, like texting, email and using social networking sites (gosh, like this one) account for 99%+ of our/my non-face-to-face communication these days. Mind you, maybe that's because mobile phone coverage is non-existent round here - one of the many the many secret joys of living in a National Park :)
