Damn you Amsterdam and your cool initiatives! We need this in LA. Anyone know of anything similar happening in the states

no, but that's a great idea to start one isn't it?

according to the link when you click through they have to rent space locally on their own. It would be cool if they transitioned into a coworking/ shared co-op space for another year after the 6 months though. As a small business owner- even though I had help my first 6months, I couldn't sustain a space on my own for my store until well into the 1st year and even then it was a struggle. Of course that depends on the business, it's cycle and the market it serves.

for sure- like Lindsey, that was my immediate first question: "then what?"

Thanks Audrey! Yeah, I saw that they had to rent space locally, but I think there needs to be some kind of transition program! If the store built up a clientele in 6 months... a new location may lead to a loss in business. I guess it does depend on the business type!

It really would be awesome to see something like this in DTLA for example where we have many buildings w/ ground floor retail that are currently empty (have been for some time) and if they are going to continue to sit unoccupied offer some type of city incentive/tax credit to potentially bring new businesses into the area.
