Sleep Better: Sleep Science Roundup #30DaysofGOOD

Things are easier said than done, or so the old adage goes, and we couldn't agree more. That's why we do The GOOD 30-Day Challenge (#30DaysofGOOD), a monthly attempt to live better. Our challenge for May? Sleep better.

In our effort to improve how we sleep, we've made a point of keeping up on the sleep-related science coming out of universities and research centers around the world. There is no shortage of people, companies, and institutions examining the relationship between quality sleep and good health. Here are some interesting studies we came across this month.

The study found people who slept more than nine hours each night may suppress genes that contribute to weight gain.

3 in 10 adults have walked in sleep

"This study supports the organic nature of sleepwalking, and underscores the fact that sleepwalking is much more prevalent in adults than previously appreciated," researchers reported in the May 15 issue of Neurology.

A two-decade study shows that people with severe sleep apnea could be four times as likely to die of cancer as people without the condition.
