SPCA Keeps Seniors With Their Pets

Studies show that seniors benefit emotionally from spending time with pets. So, when Roxy Stan and her Siamese cat, Katy, fell ill around the same time, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Senior Care Program (SPCA) was there to help. Volunteers from SPCA are sent to homes of seniors 65 and older that need help caring for their pets, from dog walking to giving medicine to ailing animals. This holistic approach reduces the amount of pets seniors give up to shelters.
