In the city of St. Louis, 18 food deserts deny 14.2% of its residents access to hyper-local, affordable, and healthy food. The St. Louis Metro Market, led by St. Louis University and Washington University students, seeks to tackle this challenge by stocking a modified city transit bus with local produce and goods and taking it directly to communities. The Metro Market seeks to demonstrate demand for healthy foods in its targeted wards and bring grocery stores back to their communities.
